The Samsung Galaxy S3 came out in May of last year and it became an instant hit. The Apple iPhone 5 then followed on in September and the LG Nexus in November of last year. We know everything there is to know about the three handsets, but which come out tops out of all three?
The LG Nexus 4 arrived with the quad core 1.5GHz processor, the Apple iPhone 5 offered the 1.2GHz dual core A5 processor and the international version of the Samsung Galaxy S3 has the quad core and the US have the dual core processor. The Apple iPhone 5 falls behind these three for speed but comes in at twice as fast as the predecessor. The LG Nexus and Samsung Galaxy S3 both have quad cores, but the Nexus 4 has 2GB of RAM while the Samsung Galaxy S3 just 1GB.
With the LG Nexus 4 there is Pure Jelly Bean 4.2, the Samsung Galaxy S3 cannot match this has is comes with ICS and has been update to Jelly Bean 4.1.The Apple iPhone 5 has iOS 6.1.4. This is very stream lined, but Android is the one for customisation. The Nexus 4 will get updates quicker than the Samsung Galaxy S3, so your choice here would have to be the Samsung Galaxy S3 or the Apple iPhone 5.
You can get the LG Nexus 4 in choices of 8 and 16GB but there is no SD card support. The Samsung Galaxy S3 is available in 16GB and 32GB, plus you can add on another 64GB with SD card. The Apple iPhone 5 is offered in choices of 16GB, 32GB and 64GB of storage, but again there is no SD card support. The winner here is the Samsung Galaxy S3.
The LG Nexus 4 offers the True HD IPS display of 4.7 inches, with 318ppi and 1280 x 768 resolution. The Apple iPhone 5 has the IPS retina display and the Samsung Galaxy S3 comes with the 5 inch Super AMOLED display with resolution of 1280 x 720p. all are superb displays but the most realistic is the IPS, which is easier to read in sunlight. The AMOLED displays can be affected by glare. As the LG Nexus 4 comes with the largest of the displays of IPS, it wins.
LG say that you should be able to get around 15 hours talk time from the LG Nexus 4 thanks to the battery of 2100mAh. The iPhone 5 along with the Samsung Galaxy S3 should provide around 10 hours. However when AnAndTech made tests they showed that the Apple iPhone 5 was ahead, the Samsung Galaxy S3 in second and in last place was the LG Nexus 4.
The Nexus 4 weighs 129g and measures 133.9mmx68.7mmx9.1mm. The Galaxy S3 weighs 135g and is 136.6×70.6mmx8.6mm. The iPhone 5 is the lightest and thinnest of the three and it does happen to be the best looking.
If you want a handset that comes with NFC then it would have to be the Samsung Galaxy S3 or the LG Nexus 4. If you want LTE then it is the Samsung Galaxy S3 or the Apple iPhone 5.
All devices has cameras on the back of 8MP. The LG Nexus 4 offers a camera of 1.3MP on its front, which records at 1080p. there is a camera of 1.9MP on the Samsung Galaxy S3, while the smaller iPhone 5 has the 1.2 megapixel. With the Nexus 4 you get Photosphere, the Samsung Galaxy S3 is able to capture video and takes stills at the same time. The iPhone 5 wins thanks to it owning the best BSI sensor and it takes superb photos when the lighting is low.
If you want a device that is very simple to pick up and use then it would be the iPhone. It comes with the bonus of good looks and a camera that is great.
For great hardware and price tag of $299 it is the LG Nexus 4 that stands out. It offers pure Android but there is no LTE and storage is very limited.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 is the winner for storage, the battery that is removable, and the display and connectivity choices. The Samsung Galaxy S3 is dropping in price as the Samsung Galaxy S4 is out.
